Art is around us, everywhere we can see art. At now, art is wonderful, freedom and enormous. For example street art, performances, singing, advertisement. Art makes our life more fun, meaningful and different way to express yourself. Share with others, be involved. Art can be reflect to a person, society or yourself.

I believe art has rules, especially realistic painting, there is lots of theory behind. Things like perspective, colour theory, light and shadow… But these are just guideline. We don’t need to follow exactly the same. Because we are different. This is the everyday in art.

Most of the art presented desire, hope to get something be possible or come true. For example your artwork is about comedy. A piece of caricature drawing. You desire your audiences is laugh. All you need to do is makes the drawing looks funny, hilarious and stupid. Your desire may come true.

Theme can be authentic, looks real. Democratic, you want everyone is equal, social welfare. Subterfuge or Quotidian. Things we do everyday like routine. Eating,drinking and sleeping.

Work can be obvious as well as secretive and strange, for example artist like Annette Messager, her work base on children stories. In my opinion her work feel quite dark and scary for children. Is about the artist childhood experience. She may wants the viewers got the same feeling like her.

Some Artists and curators saw art in relation to everyday life, for example objects. Looking the object relationship, it can be abstract and contrasts, also it can the meaning or just playful.

Art could be creative, playful and inventive. For example Gabriel Orozco. He makes things interesting and playful. When my first saw his work. I feel quite strange, especially the football patterns sculptures, a ball usually be round. He created a illusion makes round objects become wider.

His most successful work must be For the Love of God, 2007, platinum and diamonds. The piece cost $23.6 million (£12 million) to make, and was put on sale for close to $100 million (£50 million). According to Art Knowledge News, a sale was completed at the $100 million asking price and purchased by an anonymous buyer. In my opinion, he is bold and crazy artist. Not many people will go for this idea. Think about if this 50 millions Love of God cannot be sold, you use your entire life of money to make this artwork. It is too risky like a gambling. Also this the art desire. Makes you Famous? Become rich? or Makes other people remember you?

Portrait could be a various topic, when this word comes out, my first idea was painting a face. We often see some 19th century artist would paint their face in different way. However, portrait not just about paint an realistic people. A portrait could reflect society, personal, history and entertainment.

Andy Warhol artwork react to social criticism, theme could be various. Such as Death and Disaster. Sometime also using famous pop star or iconic people for inspiration. For example Marilyn Diptych and Elvis. When we look back his work, we could know from that moment what is famous. Portrait could record people and things.

Other artist like Gerhard Richter, he like to using some shocking image or popular news for portrait. He used photography for portrait. Sometimes a piece of drawing or painting may not show enough details to the audience. Take shocking image photography may better show.

Although not all of the artist like to react society, some of the artist like to did some small painting. Elizabeth Peyton get inspired from pop singer and culture. For example Elvis Presley and Jarvis Cocker. Those were painted high contrast colour. Saturated colour for the  clothes, warm environment and coolest skin colour creates strong atmosphere.

This is a photo by Carl Warner. He creates human landscapes. Yes, you’re right! Is Human. Human body are interesting, because human have emotion, body movement and representation. In Art, human body can represent objects, space, and drama.
This images makes me feel soft and smooth. The lines, shape and structure create depths. My first look was like a hill, that’s mean the artist successful capture ideas.
One thing i forgot to say, it also looks like chocolate butter. Summary, this image makes me feel comfortable.

Object have meaning

The CAT lectures is about Gothic. I want to share the image above. Because something idea could send wrong message to audiences. I think art there is no absolutely right or wrong answers. But i believe there have rules and guideline.

Now what can you see in this image? Do you feel scary?

When you finish to look at the image, you may feel scary. Well, you are lucky, because you got the same feeling with this artist Louise Bourgeois. Let me briefly explain her artwork then I will tell you why you are just lucky.
This is about the artist unhappy childhood experience. Red colour is represent blood. Red paint on the object surface represent body fragments, fresh. It use to be scary. Right? Okay let me tell why you just lucky. For me. When I first look at this, I don’t feel any scare or frighten. Red could be many representation. Fresh Blood is just one of them. Even the artist used red paint on some objects emphasize this is scary bloody object. The red cupboard, red arm, red cylinder suspended on the wall. All of them makes me feels like Chinese festival culture. Especially the red cupboard similar with tradition mailbox.
In China, Red is meaning happy,brings lucky and energy. Just like Chinese New Year, each streets,room and public you can see red colour every where. Red Room is mean happy, totally different with this artist present the ideas

Gothic have different types, is a form of visual language. In contemporary Gothic could be music, punk, fashion and express feelings. Cyber Goth and steampunk are Gothic. The visual language can be what you wearing. Dress could tell the person style, some people use to be looks like others. But some of them like to emphasise they are unique, different world person. Some people may think they are STRANGE. Looks like evil, bad and fear.

This kind of feelings is easy to understand. It is because we are different. We may have same topic, but we have different opinions, people like criticism, especially something we don’t like.
Just like Music, mine is like to listen jazz. But you may like rock music. Rock and Jazz can be contrast. Loud and Quite. Soft and Heavy. Slow and Fast. Angry and Happy.

In this week I have took some photos from our cardboard city.

In week no.1, we are focused on build your own building model, these are my model for the cardboard cut. Once we finished build, we will move on drawing stage. Put the building in different position, make the city be much more interesting.

Abject– Extremely bad, is not a good word. It could be related to dirty or nasty.

Abjection is often used to describe the state of often-marginalized groups, such as women,prostitutes, convicts, poor people. This term used in the works of Julia Kristeva. Abject could referring to a space or begins inhabit.We often see newspapers, magazine posted crime article, those were could be abject body. For example murder, rape crime pictures.

In religion, different religions have their meaning. These meaning was guide people to follow it. For example in Christian, bible mention about Seven deadly sins. Those were Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy and Pride.

What have I learn?

In this lectures, Abject this world could be described many things. Things could related war, poor people and crime. These were not a good things. It a reflection people for survival, could did things no humanity, such as war. People killing each other for survival, food and money. People always think these were not acceptable, but think about Abject this word may related to yourself. Greed, Sloth, Envy and Pride .We always make this mistake. Mistake makes people reflection, the war history was a Abject body proof. Although we cant said war dont exist. But back to modern world, people have thinking, humanity, we could help each other makes life better.

Now l am doing a project call “Cardboard City” during this three weeks. This is a group project but most of it is individually work. We designed different style and shape of buildings and put together. Then using the light box diffusing the light to the buildings.In this project, my target focus the light and shadow relationship, interesting view point and compositions.

Designer Alberto Caiola has created “Flask and The Press,” a wonderfully modern combination of a cheery and colourful diner in Shanghai, China with a speakeasy entrance cleverly hidden within a vintage Coca-Cola machine that leads to a warm, welcoming bar with clean lines and muted tones dedicated to the art of the cocktail.

• What have I learn?

This article was about an interesting interior design shop in Shanghai. The shop entrance was a Vintage Coca-Cola Machine. I think was quite mystery and fascinated. I really love the inside decoration, especially the three dimension box hang up on the ceiling. It created space and contemporary.
From Designer Alberto Caiola, his designs could influence my current art project. For example Illustrations, Life drawing and Environment design.

MYTHOLOGY OF THE LANDSCAPE

Mythology of the Landscape means to create stories through our imagination and how we as individuals interpret that. When thinking about the Landscape the initial thought would be of the outdoors, an image or view of the countryside or just empty horizon. Landscape can in fact be other things also including the Wilderness, a City or the Suburban areas.

The Wilderness comes with stories and myths of untamed places with dangerous creatures that live there. To a lot of people especially children the Wilderness is a place to be feared. In the classical mythology of the wilderness:
“Space beyond civilisation, a place to be feared, untamed by man e.g. mountains, forests, deserts and seas. People of the wilderness: witches, big foot, wolves, thieves, savages, devils etc.”

• What I have learn?

This was a blog from Melissa C Birch. The article title interested me to continue read. Bigfoot, wolves, thieves, savages. I love fantasy and mystery stuff, especially creatures. The blog mention an artist call “Charles Fréger”. I really the “Wilder Mann” clothes design. The photoshoot could see the characters with mask bring them alive, look like they existed in this world.
